The new age meditations discussed here are modern adaptations to the old meditation techniques.
Most people find meditating for the 'traditional' reasons too out of sync of their day-to-day reality.
I mean who has the time for spiritual evolvement when the neighbors are busy zipping around town in their flashy new car.
Where the hell is my Porsche?
Hence, the need for a 'modern' approach to meditation. A 'material' approach to meditation would be more appropriate.
And while we are on the topic, wouldn't it be nice to have a meditation that could be done in a hurry? Why not just listen to music and get transported to higher levels of consciousness without having to meditate at all?
Wealth and success are essential to live a comfortable life, so there is nothing wrong in using meditation to improve ones material lot. Later, we will talk about certain meditations and the science behind them that can help you achieve it.
But, I am not a fan of any shortcuts to enlightenment, or short cuts to anything for that matter.
Shortcuts are just that - shortcuts. They cut short your progress in the long run. They sabotage any attempt at lasting success. Like fast food, they provide instant gratification, but destroy your well-being over the long haul.
Instant meditation doesn't exist. I will not discuss any 30 second or 2 minute or 5 minute meditations. To me, they are stress-relieving breaks in a busy day, but they can't possibly be called meditations.
Rather I will talk about meditations that require effort and practice.
Ascension meditation is a good place to start. It is a modern-day equivalent of the Buddhist tradition of practicing loving-kindness and compassion.
Manifesting your intent through the law of attraction meditation gets you what you desire by first being thankful and grateful for what you already have.
On similar lines is abundance meditation which, as the name suggests, can be done to attract abundance into your life. It could either be financial abundance, emotional abundance in the form of love, kindness and compassion, or spiritual abundance, or all three, depending upon what you wish for.
Try these new age meditations to manifest your dreams and desires. But, don't forget to back up your meditations with some solid hard work in the real world to make your dreams reality.
Because without action, nothing really moves in the universe.
I also came across a relatively new method of meditation that originated in Korea in 1996. You can read about my 'encounter' with Maum meditation here.
Quantum physicists keep shedding new light on the mysteries of our world. Find out what some of their famous experiments imply about visualization meditation.
